Matala has an ample supply of kafenion, cafes and quiet tavernas where the visitor can relax over a coffee or enjoy a meal chosen from all manner of international dishes or the traditional local Cretan fare. The village centre has plenty of tourist shops selling the usual shells, soaps, cards and beach gear plus arts / crafts for those with a more eclectic taste. As with any popular resort destination Matala now has large and small hotels in abundance and tourist services at every turn. Car hire and excursions can readily be found.
